Johan de Meij is a Dutch composer known for his symphonic works, especially his piece "The Lord of the Rings". It was inspired by J.R.R. Tolkien's epic novel of the same name and debuted in 1988. The piece is made up of five movements, each representing a key character or moment in the story. It has since become one of the most popular and performed works in the symphonic band repertoire. De Meij has won numerous awards for his compositions and continues to write music for a wide range of ensembles.
